Quarantine Stories – Day 66

Has it really been almost three weeks since I updated this? The days really are starting to run together.

Places are starting to re-open, though we’re getting daily reports of people getting upset at having to wear a mask. There are “Reopen!” protests going on. People are back to saying that this isn’t any worse than the flu. (The flu kills 60k people every year over six months; this has killed 90k people in six weeks while in full lockdown.) And now the anti-vaxxers are getting involved.

If they were only endangering themselves, then I’d say let them run around. But they can spread this without knowing it.

We went grocery shopping yesterday. I’d say a good two-thirds of the people there had masks on, but the other third didn’t. And way too many people haven’t figured out one-way aisles yet.

Most things are back in stock, though. Some of them, like rice, you can tell have been bought, but there were still some on the shelves. The only places that are entirely empty still are the toilet paper and paper towel aisle, and the cleaning gloves. Everything else looks pretty much OK.

I’m still working from home. I’ve gotten permission to start working from the office again if only a day or two a week because I’m constantly interrupted. I’m waiting until after Memorial Day to see if things stabilize. If the counts start going up again since the state opened, then I’ll stick it out at home a bit longer.

I did get a new desk chair. The old chair I had been using in my work-from-home office was killing my butt; I was in pain every time I stood up. So I took my chair from my personal/gaming office and used it. Then I bought a new gaming chair for my upstairs office. It’s kinda ugly, but at least has decent lower pack support.

In gaming, I finally broke away from playing Destiny all the time by uninstalling it. Since then, I’ve finished two games and installed and played a few others. I figure if I was better at Destiny, I might have enjoyed it more, but I got really tired of the grind.

I keep thinking that I need to get a bigger drive for my gaming computer, then realize I’ve got two-dozen games I’m already not playing installed and don’t need more space as long as I have them.

I got some mulch and put it out in the front yard, but it barely covered half of the space. I need to make another run. There’s a bunch I need to do outside, but it’s finally starting to get warm, so that sounds less-than something I want to do. Of course, the weather went directly from uncomfortably cold to uncomfortably hot, so what can I do?

So… I’m still here. I kinda feel like I’m going crazy because every day and week is starting to feel the same. I get the people who want to go out; I really do. I want to go hang out at a bar again. But I really don’t want to get sick and die either. And I don’t feel like rolling the dice at this point.

Well, maybe I can at least start forcing myself to update this more often. That’s something, I suppose. Especially since Destiny isn’t installed anymore.
