Monday, April 20, 2020 – Day 38 of Quarantine
I thought I was going to be able to make a positive update today, but… maybe not. But I’ll get to that.
The weekend went pretty well. I had ordered some new parts for my computer (a new CPU and motherboard); they came in last week, and I installed them Saturday. It took a bit of finagling–my old CPU was an Intel and this one is an AMD, and I had a bunch of drivers that needed to update–but I finally got it working.
It isn’t flashy like a video card upgrade, but it does feel a bit snappier than before. My old CPU was seven years old, after all. I’m just hoping the system stays more stable now.
I played Cards Against Humanity with the local group on Friday night via Tabletop Simulator. I finally had to quit around 11-something because I was way too tired. And had way too many beers.
I’m trying to stop. I really am. It’s just… it looks like I picked the wrong month to stop drinking. Maybe when all this is over.
I spent the rest of the weekend playing Destiny. So much Destiny.
I’m actually at the point where I don’t really like playing Destiny anymore. But I feel obligated to do it to get all the seasonal content, which isn’t that interesting. I kinda want just to delete it, but I also want to see where all of this is going. So… I guess I’m stuck with it for a while.
I had planned to do some yard work on Sunday. Well, spray the weeds anyway. Then it rained all day. Now I really have to do something next weekend.

Becky has now decided that it is absolutely vital that she deposit her dividend checks into her account as quickly as possible. I’m not sure why; all the bills come out of my account, and she uses my credit card when she buys things (which she obviously hasn’t been doing for the past few weeks). But she demands that we go out tomorrow. I tried to suggest waiting until Friday, when we were going to the grocery store again anyway. Then, she accused me of being “mean” to her, so I guess we’re going tomorrow.

Which may be a moot point soon anyway. The Governor today announced that the state is starting to open up again on Friday. A lot of places will be opening then, and “some” restaurants will be opening come Monday. Becky is excited about that, but I think it’s a bad idea.
Yes, there are a lot of people wanting things to open. Most of them want other people to go back to work so that they can go out to eat and get a haircut.
But we haven’t peaked yet. We aren’t even close. We’re at 19 thousand cases in Georgia, with around 750 dead, and the numbers are still going up. Letting everyone go out and mingle again is just asking for them to go up faster.
Nationwide the same thing is going on, and we’re over 40 thousand dead and three-quarters of a million cases. That can only go up too.
But people want to go out and eat again, I suppose.
I don’t know how this is going to look 10 or 100 years from now. But for me, right now, it really looks like the people in charge are prioritizing the convenience of a few and the stock portfolios of a few others over keeping people alive. Some people may die, but, hey, they’re making money again.

Meanwhile, I’ll keep on as best as I can. Hey, if the bars open back up, maybe I can claim my hour to myself again. And finally get some of that writing going that I keep telling myself I need to do.
